Stuffed French Toast

1-1lb loaf French bread

4 eggs

1 cup half-and-half

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Filling:

1-8 ounce package cream cheese, softened

2 tablespoons sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Glaze:

1 cup Smucker's Apricot Preserves

1/2 cup orange juice

1/2 teaspoon almond extract

In small bowl, blend together ingredients for filling until light and fluffy. Set aside.

Cut bread into 10-12 slices, approximately 1-1/2 inch thick. Cut a small slice along the top of each piece, creating a pocket in the middle. Fill with a heaping tablespoon of filling.

Mix together the eggs, half-and-half, vanilla and nutmeg. Dip bread into this mixture and cook on a greased griddle until both sides are golden brown. Be careful not to squeeze out the filling. Place cooked slices on a baking sheet and place in a 225 degree oven to keep warm.

Heat preserves in small saucepan until melted. Stir in orange juice and almond extract. To serve, drizzle over French toast.

Baked Fremch Toast Shwirl

Ingredients:

1 loaf (16 ounces) Pepperidge Farm庐 Cinnamon Swirl Bread, cut into cubes

3/4 cup dried cranberries OR cup raisins

6 eggs

3 cups half-and-half or milk

2 tsp. vanilla extract

Cinnamon-sugar OR confectioners' sugar

Whipped butter

Pure maple syrup

Directions:

Place the bread cubes and cranberries in a greased 3-quart shallow baking dish. Beat the eggs, half-and-half and vanilla in a medium bowl with a fork or whisk. Pour over the bread cubes. Cover the dish and refrigerate for 1 hour or overnight.

Uncover the dish. Bake at 350掳F. for 45 minutes or until golden brown and set in the center. Sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar. Serve with the butter and syrup.
I like to make french toast using cinnamon raisin bread with the traditional method. When mixing your eggs and milk for the crust, sprinkle in a little extra cinnamon and a dash of good vanilla extract. Dip the bread in the egg mixture and place in a heated, buttered pan. When you flip the bread sprinkle the cooked side with a little brown sugar.

You could also do a kind of grilled sandwich/french toast. Using a baguette, slice 1 inch pieces. On half of the pieces spread some cream cheese and top with smoked salmon. If you are feeling generous, use brie cheese and prosciutto. Top each piece with a slice of bread. Mix two eggs with 1/4 cup of heavy cream. Dunk the sandwiches in the mixture and cook in a heated buttered pan. Instead of syrup, use warned apricot jam.
To add flavor, try these:

1. Change the bread -- use cinnamon bread instead.

2. Add 1 tsp vanilla extract to egg wash.

3. Add 1 tsp fresh ground nutmeg to egg wash.

4. Add 1 tsp maple flavoring to egg wash.

5. Use coconut milk instead of regular milk in egg wash.

6. After egg wash, dredge in pulverized Fruit Loops.

Hope this helps!

Dave
ok, I'm famous for my french toast !

Beat eggs, a splash of milk, a tablespoon or so of sugar, and flavor with either a shake of cinnamon or nutmeg %26amp; a few drops of vanilla. Dip each side of the bread in the mixture and then place on a heated skillet sprayed with nonstick cooking spray and cook until each side is golden brown.

Want to try something very good ? Try getting Texas toast (very thick bread). Cut a slit into the middle, and pipe using a pastry bag some whipped cream cheese with the jam of your choice mixed in into the inside of the bread ...then follow the above recipe ... DELICIOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Frech toast

2 pieces of white bread

My Mom used to make pancake batter and then dip the bread in that to make french toast. She put a little vanilla extract and cinnamon in the batter, it was great. I make mine today that way but have used orange extract for a fruitier flavor. Also french toast is great with strawberry or blueberry syrup.

Follow your 'usual' Recipe but, beat in 1 teaspoon of Vanilla Extract.

I find it adds a good flavor. (I guess you could add any flavored Extract but, so far I stick with Vanilla)
put a few drops of vanilla and or cinnamon with the eggs and beat well. you can put some fruit on top.
