I'm making french toast tomorrow morning and I'm using raisin bread. How do you make the egg batter? What's a good french toast recipe?
Yield: Serves 8
Filling:
2 eight-ounce packages cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 ripe bananas, mashed
French Toast:
24 slices raisin bread
1-1/4 cups milk
1 teaspoon cinnamon
8 eggs
2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar (more if desired)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
maple syrup as accompaniment
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Generously butter 15x10x1-inch baking pan. In small bowl combine and mix filling ingredients. Spread filling evenly over 1 slice of bread, top with another slice, spread filling evenly over second slice, then top with third slice. Continue with remaining bread, using 3 slices per person.
Combine milk and next 4 ingredients, beating until well blended. Pour into large bowl. Dip bread in milk mixture, turning to coat both sides evenly. Place on baking sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes, then turn slices over and continue baking an additional 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.
Dust lightly with additional confectioners' sugar, if desired. Serve with warm maple syrup. Variations: Red raspberry or strawberry preserves can be substituted for fresh bananas in filling, or you can use fresh strawberries.

The next morning, remove pan from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). - or you can fry this in a buttered pan --
Cover pan with aluminum foil and bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes. Uncover pan and bake for an additional 30 minutes, until golden brown and center is set.
To make Sauce: In a saucepan, combine sugar and cornstarch, add water. Boil over medium heat for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in banana and reduce heat. Simmer 8 to 10 minutes, or until the berries have burst. Stir in butter until melted. Serve the sauce over squares of french toast
2 eggs
1 cup of milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp sugar
Whisk together and dip bread in to soak.
Fry in butter in non stick skillet.
Use one egg for every cup of milk, a tablespoon of cinnamon, and a teaspoon of vanilla.
A one egg custard will probably be enough for two people, and a two egg custard should work for four or five. I can't say for certain because I generally use one dozen eggs and 12 cups of milk when I make French Toast and cook up four loaves of bread.
Doc
I just use a few eggs and add a little water to it. Usually I add some cinnimon, maybe some vanilla, but if you are using raisin bread, then just eggs will be fine! Sometimes I mix milk in the eggs. I never measure, it just depends on how many people I'm cooking for, and store extra if I need to. They toast well the next day!
What is REALLY good is to crush up cereal like corn flakes and dip the bread into it after it's dipped in the eggs. Crush the cereal really well, and it sticks better. It is really yummy!
I whip up a couple of eggs with milk and add Cinnamon, either use texas toast or regular bread it is the best that I know of. I never tried with raisin bread though
Kiki's Oh-So-Delicous French Toast:
1 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 tsp cinnamon
Whisk all ingredients together in bowl, soak bread slices in the ingredients and then pan-fry. Add powdered sugar and cinnamon for an extra delicous taste.
ENJOY!
Well you got some good recipes, but this is how I do it: 2-3 eggs in a bowl. Beat with a fork, add about 1/4-1/3 cup milk, a little sugar (1 tsp), a little salt (dash). You need salt. Melt wads of butter on a skillet and get it hot. If the bread is fresh, dip it quickly; if it's oldish, let it soak a bit. Then pick it up with a fork or spatula and lay it on the butter. You can take it from here. Mmmm, hungry now.
