This recipe is easy and will blow your mind:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Greek style toast, thick cut (6 slices for this recipe)
Dipping Batter:
4 eggs
3/4 cup milk (not skim)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. vanilla
Beat well with fork in a large bowl
Soak the thick bread in the mixture for about 10 seconds and place in a baking dish that's been sprayed with PAM. Sprinkle with brown sugar.
Place in oven for 25 - 30 minutes. Remove from oven and place on a frying pan to brown further on each side. Cut diagonally to make triangles.
It's easy to make, just takes time.
Variance:+++++++
Don't put in the oven, but cook each side on med-low heat for about 8 minutes each side. Not as good as the first way, but still phenomenal. The dipping batter makes all the difference.
Goes great with:
A scoop of ice-cream
Melted butter and warm syrup
Fruit preserves
Powdered sugar
In a bowl w/ a small amount of warm condensed milk-this one is awesome..kind of like a bread pudding.
Hi, People always seem to love my french toast. Here's how I learned to make it.
Whip up your eggs, add a little half%26amp;half, and a tiny amount of real vanilla and salt. Dip thick sliced bread in the egg mixture and fry on both sides until golden brown. Sift some powdered sugar over it and serve with whipped butter. Enjoy!
Mix together in a flattish bowl, 2 eggs and about 2 tsp of cinnamon. Put a peice of bread in it and flip it to the other side. Stick it in a pan.
FRENCH TOAST
1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, cut into bits
8 large eggs
4 cups milk
2 tablespoons vanilla
2 tablespoons dark rum
1 loaf challah (about 1 pound), cut into 1-inch-thick slices and ends discarded
4 cups corn flakes
cinnamon sugar made by stirring together 2 tablespoons sugar and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Accompaniments:
maple syrup of whipped cream
pecans and/or berries
Clarify butter: In a small heavy saucepan melt butter over low heat. Remove pan from heat and let butter stand 3 minutes. Skim froth and pour butter through a sieve lined with a double thickness of rinsed and squeezed cheesecloth into a bowl, discarding milk solids in bottom of pan.
In a large bowl whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, and rum. Transfer half of mixture to a large shallow baking dish (about 13 by 9 by 2 inches) and soak half of bread slices 10 minutes. Turn slices over and soak 10 minutes more. In another large shallow baking dish spread half of corn flakes and coat soaked bread slices on each side, transferring to a tray. Soak and coat remaining slices with remaining egg mixture and corn flakes in same manner.
Preheat oven to 250掳F.
In a large heavy skillet heat 2 tablespoons clarified butter over moderate heat until hot but not smoking and cook 2 or 3 slices (or as many as will fit in one layer) 3 minutes on each side, or until puffed and golden brown. Transfer French toast as cooked to a baking sheet and keep warm in oven. Cook remaining slices in remaining butter in same manner.
Sprinkle French toast with cinnamon sugar and serve with accompaniments.
Makes 8 Servings.
I might be willing to share you, if you're cute, but please don't call me your recipe for french toast. :)
I like to go with an egg and a 1/2 cup of milk per 3 pieces of toast. Vanilla also makes it taste great, but I've found it varies from person to person with amount. A little melted butter can be great if you don't like your French toast with syrup.
Beat 3 eggs, about 2 tsp sugar, 1 tbs vanilla, 3 tbs milk or cream, 2 tbs orange juice. (optional)
Dip american or better yet Kings Hawiian Bread, thickly cut in egg mixture,
Place on a heated and oiled grill cook to desired doneness. Serve with powdered sugar and cinnamon, and what ever else you desire.
plain white bread or raisin bread, butter, eggs, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg (optional).
Melt butter in frying pan on medium.
Beat eggs in a bowl with a dash of cinnamon, nutmeg, %26amp; vanilla.
Soak pieces of bread in egg batter until fully saturated. Place toast in frying pan and fry until both sides are golden brown and middle is fully cooked.
put 2 eggs in a bowl with some buttermilk, cinnamon, and vanilla. Add some raisin bread and soak for 30 sec. on each side. Put on buttered griddle and wait untill brown. Serve on plate with chopped pecans and syrup on the top.
o my heaven is that good.!!
I know some people who just place bread, dipped in egg and pepper and call it french toast. Then eat it with Ketchup. The other is vanilla, cinn., egg, sugar, and apple or any fruit you want. yummmmmmmy That sounds sooooooo goooooood!!!!
