I am thirteen but do not underestimate me. I HAVE taken home economics and I know how to beat an egg. I want my mom to have a nice mother's day though so I want to make her some French toast. Never made it in my life but yeah, please I need a simple and thorough recipe. What is a simple and understandable recipe for french toast?
Here's how my mother and I have made French Toast for years.
Beat 2 eggs with a fork or whisk. Add 1/2 cup milk, 1 Tbs. sugar, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon and 1/4 tsp. nutmeg (optional) and whisk all of this together. The cinnamon won't want to combine, but ';float'; on the top...that's ok.
Spread 6 to 8 slices of bread into a pan. You can use white, wheat, raisin or cinnamon bread - whatever you have and stale is fine!
Pour half of sauce over top of bread and spread it to the edges of the bread. Turn the pieces of bread over and top with the rest of the egg mixture. We like to let it really soak into the bread so refrigerate it for 1/2 hour or overnight.
With griddle at medium high heat, put bread on to cook. No need to use butter if it's non-stick; otherwise, melt some butter on bottom of griddle or pan first. When bottom side is well browned (about 4 minutes), turn over and cook other side. Serve sprinkled with powdered sugar and maple syrup.
Maybe you can serve some sausage or bacon with the French Toast along with some juice and tea or coffee or milk. I personally love a glass of milk with anything I have maple syrup on and I'm probably older than your mother!
Enjoy Mother's Day with your mom! I'll be visiting my mother in the afternoon. What is a simple and understandable recipe for french toast?

This is a much simple french toast receipe;
6 eggs
12 slices bread
3/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract
Mix 6 eggs, add a little milk and beat. Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and cinnamon and mix.
french toast is very easy to make here is a recipe that i am sure your mother would love!!!
Ingredients
2 large eggs
1 1/2 cups skim milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
peanut oil, as needed
8 slices bread, slightly stale
Cooking Instructions
1. Whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla until thoroughly mixed.
2. Heat a well-greased griddle or large frying pan with peanut oil until hot but not smoking.
3. Soak the bread slices in the egg mixture until moistened. Place the soaked slices on the griddle. Discard any excess egg mixture.
4. When the bottoms are golden brown, flip with a spatula and brown the other side. Keep them in a warm oven until ready to serve.
with a fork, combine the following in a shallow bowl:
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
4 tsp of sugar
1/4 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg
dip slices of bread (day old french bread that's a little hard is best, but regulars stuff will work too) in egg mixture and fry in pan over medium high heat in 1 tbsp butter. sprinkle with a little bit of powdered sugar when done.
you can make the baked version by triple-ing the recipe and pouring the egg mixture over bread layered in a casserole dish. chop up 3 tbsp butter and sprinkle over top of casserole. Cover and refrigerate overnight. take out of the fridge and let sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before baking at 350 degrees for an hour. adding fruit or berries and sprinkling them with 2 tbsp sugar makes the baked version extra special.
Put your non-stick pan on medium heat and put about a tablespoon of butter to grease it- beat a few eggs in a bowl, take a peice of bread and dip it in the egg until all sides are covered in egg, pu tthe egg in the pan- watch it closely, you can lift up the bread and peak at the underside. When the egg has cooked on the bread- flip it over with a spatula and repeat. Butter it (if your Mom likes butter). It's always nice to sprinkle a tad bit of powdered sugar on each peice.
A real treat for Sunday brunch! We garnish the toast with a light sprinkle of confectioners' sugar and serve it with maple syrup. For a special treat you can substitute Amaretto for the vanilla.
INGREDIENTS:
1 egg
3/4 cup milk
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pinch salt
2 slices bread
DIRECTIONS:
Beat together egg, milk, cinnamon, vanilla and salt.
Heat a lightly oiled skillet or griddle over medium heat.
Soak bread slices in egg mixture for 20 second on each side, or until thoroughly coated. Cook bread until both sides are lightly browned and crisp.
Serve hot.
Hope your mum loves it ! :)
Don't soak the bread in the egg mixture for long,it will crumble.
Tip:
The key to good French toast is dry bread.
The french use dry stale bread for this !
Whip up a couple of eggs, splash a little milk in there, I like to sprinkle some cinnamon in mine, then take some texas toast (this is what I use, you could use french bread or whatever you prefer) dip it in there, and I usually cook mine on a griddle so I can fit more on there at a time, sprinkle with powdered sugar once bread is done and top with any fruit you prefer, or it would be just as good without fruit if you don't have any on hand.
I use 1 cup of milk and 2 eggs. If you use raisin bread it is really good, but if you only have regular bread that is ok.
Dip your bread in this mixture (beat together first) for just a few seconds. If you are using a dense bread like raisin bread, leave it in 3 seconds or so. Let it soak up some of the mixture.
Warm a skillet on medium heat and add a small spoon of butter. Toss a few pieces of your soaked bread in and sprinkle with cinnamon. Let it cook until toasted on that side and flip.
Serve with maple syrup or powdered sugar. This goes really well with some fruit salad and coffee (melon, grapes, apples in the fruit salad).
Good luck, it is very easy. Oh, and way to go for fixing mom breakfast. You're a good kid.
U will need
Eggs (varies by how many slices of french toast u want, i usually use 6 for about 6 slices).
Milk roughly half a cup or so, i just put in a splash.
Bread preferably white or wheat but u can what u like.
Non stick cooking spray
I like to use an electric griddle, which i heat to 300degrees or on stove med-high heat.
Step 1 spray griddle or pan w/spray, test the griddle to see if its warmed by sprinkling just alittle water on it, if it sizzles up fast its warm enough.
While the griddle/pan is heating break ur eggs and add a splash or so of milk and use a wire whisk if u have one, a fork will do as well. Beat until well blended. I forgot to add this on ingriedents, but i like to make cinnamon to mine, just a dash in egg batter will do.
Dip the bread into the batter and get both sides well covered, and toss on the griddle/pan. Let cook on each side for roughly 1-2 mins. The sides should be lightly browned and firm but soft not soggy. Then they should be done. I always test the first piece and make sure its cooked in the middle.
Optional toppings r strawberries, whipped cream, syrup, or honey or nothing at all really.
This is what I do:
I whip 2 eggs and a splash of milk in a bowl. I dip a piece of white bread in, making sure the whole thing is dampened. I pop them on a medium-heat frying pan, quickly sprinkling some cinnamon-sugar on that side and then flip them and sprinkle it on the other side. I cook it for a few minutes like that, flip it and cook the original side, making sure they're both lightly browned.
If either is undercooked, I can just flip it to that side again. It's important to get the cinnamon-sugar on quickly, because if the other side cooks dry before you do it, the cinnamon-sugar won't stick to that side.
I think it's delicious. Sorry there are no measurements, but it's great and I just eye it, personally!
Oh, and I just make as much mix as I need. 2 eggs is never enough, but I make teeny batches of the batter so I don't make too much and get left with unused stuff.
Simple French Toast
